What is the change policy?
Schedule changes can be made during the first two days of each session:
⢠Session 1: June 16, last day to make changes for Session 1
⢠Session 2: July 8, last day to make changes for Session 2
A $100 change fee per class/period applies. There is no fee if a class is canceled by PolySummer or if a change is made due to movement from a waitlist.
What should my student bring to camp?
Each day, students should bring:
⢠A backpack
⢠Their PolySummer lanyard (includes name, schedule, lunch, and aftercare information)
⢠A reusable water bottle
Optional items:
⢠Lunch (if not purchasing one)
⢠Towel and change of clothes (for swim or water-play classes)
Unless required for a class, students are encouraged not to bring electronics or valuables. Please see our Valuables Policy for more information. Electronics, including cell phones, may not be used during lunch.
Please label belongings when possible. PolySummer is not responsible for lost or stolen items. A Lost & Found is located near the PolySummer Office.Â
Can I drop my student off and stay on campus?
During the first two days of each session, families may walk students to their first class. Once classes begin, we ask that parents exit campus.
PolySummer is a closed campus. All visitors must check in and out at the PolySummer Office.
What time can I drop my student off in the morning?
Students with A Period classes may be dropped off starting at no earlier than 8:00 am. This is a free service.
To avoid heavy traffic, we recommend arriving before 8:15 am. If your studentâs first class is B Period or later, please drop off no earlier than 10 minutes before class begins.
How many students are in each class?
Most classes have a 1:8 teacher-to-student ratio, with one or more TAs. Outdoor classes may have slightly larger ratios.Â
Swim classes: Students are assessed on the first day and grouped by ability. Lifeguards are on duty during all swim classes and pool activities.Â
What is the Kindergarten Program like?
Our Kindergarten Program is a warm, structured introduction to kindergarten, taught by experienced educators. It runs from Periods AâE with its own tailored schedule Kindergarten students may also enroll in F and G period afternoon electives. You can find more information here [link]
If a class is offered in both Session 1 and again in Session 2, is the curriculum different in each session?
No, classes in Session 1have repeating curriculum in Session 2 unless otherwise noted in our course descriptions. The majority of our classes have the same curriculum in Session 1 to Session 2.
What if my student doesnât know where to go or gets turned around?
Teachers and TAs are stationed throughout campus to help, and younger students are escorted in groups in between classes. TAs wear white shirts with âSTAFFâ printed in orange. Students can always go to the PolySummer Office for assistance as well.
What if my student needs to stay past G Period?
After Hours Care runs from 4:30â6:00 pm and costs $300 per session. If a student is not picked up by the end of G Period carline, they will be sent to aftercare and must be signed out there. Additional charges may apply.
How can I register for additional classes?
You may register online, by clicking the Enroll button on our website. If you are currently registered and/or want additional help, contact the PolySummer Office, 626-396-6307 or email us at polysummer@polytechnic.org.
How will my child remember their schedule and find their classes?
Every student receives a lanyard with their schedule and should wear it at all times. Lost lanyards can be replaced at the PolySummer Office. Staff and TAs use lanyards to help guide students between classes
How do students move between the North and South campuses?
Students transition safely in supervised groups:
⢠North Campus students meet at the âBus Stopâ near the main dining hall to form a walking group
⢠TAs escort students between campuses
⢠Staff members are stationed at crosswalks to manage traffic and ensure safety
⢠Students are supervised at all times during transitions
When is the appropriate time to pick up my child?
You may pick up your child at any time during the designated carline window. You can find the pick up and drop off information under Information for Enrolled Families on our website.
For early pickup, please:
⢠Park in the underground garage
⢠Check in at the PolySummer Office to sign out and pick up your child
Can I park and meet my student after class?
Yes. Please park in the parking garage and wait in the Dining Commons Patio. As a reminder, PolySummer is a closed campus. Parents may not go to classrooms or walk through hallways. Please do not park in the carline or on California Blvd, Wilson Ave, or Catalina Ave.
