Spotlight Scripts – Crafting One-Act Wonders
Grade 6-9

In this exciting writing course, students will explore the world of drama by focusing on the creation of one-act plays and mastering the art of writing dialogue. Students will learn how to craft dynamic characters, structure scenes, and develop compelling plots—all while focusing on the unique elements of dialogue in storytelling. Through hands-on writing exercises, students will practice writing realistic conversations that reveal character motivations, emotions, and conflicts. Along with playwriting, students will revisit key writing skills such as grammar, punctuation, sentence variety, and paragraph organization. They will engage in peer workshops, receive constructive feedback, and refine their drafts to produce polished scripts. By the end of the course, students will have a greater appreciation for dramatic writing and dialogue, gaining both the creative and technical skills to express their ideas clearly and effectively. This course fosters creativity, collaboration, and strong writing fundamentals, helping students develop as confident writers and storytellers.
