What makes a great movie truly great? This course explores the foundations of screenwriting and cinema studies with an emphasis on storytelling mechanics. Students will watch films like All About Eve, Casablanca, The Sixth Sense, and Star Wars: A New Hope and dissect why these stories remain timeless with a focus on filmic elements such as narrative structure, character development, dialogue, setting and theme. Students will script short "spin-off" scenes and create storyboards to flex their creativity and engage with the films. By the end of the course, students will not only appreciate cinema history but also develop critical thinking skills to deconstruct the media they consume every day. Note: All films selected are rated PG or PG-13
