Join us for an exciting summer adventure in zinemaking! In this hands-on course, students will explore the vibrant world of zines—self-published booklets (short for magazines) that express ideas, stories, and art from unique perspectives. We will begin the course by discovering the origins of zines, and how zines have served as platforms for self-expression and community-building for decades. Budding zinesters will dive into brainstorming sessions to spark creative ideas and investigate their own personal interests and passions. We will explore foundational research skills through hands-on activities and craft content for the first Poly ZineLab collaborative zine! During the second half of the course, students will gain practical experience through the process of putting together their own personal interest zines, from idea creation to research to layout, design, and printing. Together we’ll explore various formats and styles, allowing each student to create a zine that showcases their unique voice. By the end of the course, each student will take away a completed and printed zine to share with friends and family. Whether you’re an aspiring writer, artist, activist, or simply want to spread your love of superheroes or Taylor Swift, ZineLab is the perfect place to unleash your creativity and learn about the power of self-expression through zines!
