Somewhere between traditional journaling, collage, and scrapbooking, junk journaling is a satisfying creative expression for those who love paper arts, books, and would like to build a creative work over time. In this class, students will experiment with a variety of paper textures, adhesives, cutting techniques, and principles of layering and framing to create thematic visual and textual landscapes. We will explore ways to create a consistent visual motif, blending text with visual messages, and experiment with working in different paper sizes (from tiny miniature journals to sketchbook size pages and everything in between). We’ll have fun with washi tape, stickers, and lots of different types of writing utensils. Students will either bring their own blank notebook or choose from those provided to embark on their own junk journaling journey.
