This course utilizes the complex mechanics of competitive Pokemon battling as a dynamic vehicle for teaching advanced critical thinking, applied probability, and systems analysis. Students will move beyond the surface level of the game to engage with its underlying engine, learning to apply statistical analysis for risk assessment. The class will have a heavy focus on Game Theory, requiring students to predict opponent behavior, optimize limited resources through statistical analysis, and construct synergistic teams based on data rather than preference. By tearing the “metagame” as a logic puzzle, students will not only refine their technical literacy and reasoning skills but also practice essential social-emotional competencies, including sportsmanship, resilience against randomization (luck), and strategic decision-making under pressure.
