Experiments are the primary learning tool in this course. Each day, students investigate a new scientific concept through hands-on exploration, whether that be testing out air resistance through handmade parachutes, identifying parts of an owl's food web as found in an owl pellet, or investigating the best method for cleaning oil spills through a simulation. Other highlights include extracting strawberry DNA, germinating seeds, making a soda geyser, and engineering slime. Over the three weeks, through their experimentation, students will be exposed to ideas from the physical, chemical, and biological sciences. The class will view educational videos of no more than a few minutes to help illustrate class concepts.
