The movement of the hand stimulates the muscles involved in writing as well as the process of thinking. Handwriting, especially in Cursive, supports creativity and structures thought in a way typing on a keyboard or tablet cannot.
This course helps students strengthen both Print and Cursive handwriting while supporting cognitive development. Through daily handwritten practice (letter formation, spacing, and fluency) and creative writing activities (descriptive sentences, short stories, narratives, and personal reflections), students also participate in targeted handâeye coordination exercises that build fine motor strength, pencil control, and overall writing confidence. Multisensory activities, such as painting, working with clay, drawing, and more, provide additional hands-on opportunities to reinforce fine motor development.
Instruction is differentiated to meet the needs of all learners, offering support for beginners and enrichment for more advanced writers.
Each week concludes with Fun Fridays, featuring engaging, hands-on activities that enhance fine motor skills, communication, problem-solving, and creativity. Fun Friday participation is optional, and academic writing opportunities will still be provided for students who prefer to continue with traditional practice.
