Using excerpts from multicultural literature, mythologies, music and art students will be guided through the complex structures of writing. Students will explore writing structures that go beyond traditional linear standards of story telling using braided narratives, multiple expressions of rhetoric (the Mother Tongue, the Western Academic Tongue, and the Subaltern Tongue among a few) and explore cyclical/ nested patterns of rhetorical expression. Writers will be expected tto share their work out loud and meet with peers/teachers to aid in the evolution of their writing style. Each week students will be provided with the opportunity to illustrate, decorate, and bind their compilation of stories. By the end of our class together scholars will be able to successfully create and analyze rhetoric that emphasizes moral complexity,non-conflict- driven narratives, and original rhetorical arraignment birthed by critical thinking.
