Birds are modern day dinosaurs! Join this class to learn how they are like reptiles and what about them is uniquely avian. Birds have many unique characteristics (for example, feathers, beaks, webbed feet, super-sharp vision) and live in a variety of places (land, air, water). This course will explore all the distinctive features and skills that birds have and the unique anatomy specific to birds. Students will become familiar with the differences between flighted and flightless birds, the structure of feathers,
eggs, and beaks, and the differences between types of nests. There will be lots of student-led discussion, some video (for example, bird feeder web cams and slo-mo video of birds in flight), hand-on activities (Build a Bird!), and coloring of anatomical structures in this class.
