Magic the Gathering Commander Edition
Grade 6-11

Magic the Gathering is a popular trading card game that is more than thirty years old and seen its fair share of collaborations between many popular media including those of Dungeons and Dragons, Stranger Things, and even Marvel to name a few. The popular commander format is just as old as the game itself and something that has been growing in popularity in the last twenty years. In this class students will get to experience the popular commander format in which students will be able to practice their critical thinking skills and strategy building. In this class, students build 100 card decks based around their commander, the leader of their deck and pit their deck building skills and strategies against three other players in a four person free for all! Along with building strategies and working on critical thinking skills, students will also be able to exercise their social skills as some games of commander take on a 2v2 format and require players to work together and strategize against opposing teams. As students gain confidence and familiarity with their decks, students will have portions of the class to switch out cards for different ones in an effort to better their deck and strategies.
